Can I import a FoxPro or dBase (.dbf) file?

Yes. Bionic Forms reads .dbf files from FoxPro, Visual FoxPro, dBase and Clipper directly. You do not need to turn them into a spreadsheet first.

To start a new app from one, drop the .dbf file on bionicforms.com/foxpro or bionicforms.com/dbase. To add it to an app you already have, open the collection it belongs in and choose Import, then pick the .dbf file.

Old column names are short, like QTY, DESCRIP or PARTNO. Bionic Forms turns them into plain words and matches them to your fields where it can. So Qty fills a quantity field, Descrip fills a description, and a part or item number fills a field called Code. Before anything is saved, you see which column goes where, and you can change it.

If your table has long notes, they may be kept in a second file next to it, ending in .fpt or .dbt. A .dbf on its own does not include those notes, so Bionic Forms will not import it and will tell you why rather than lose them. Send us both files at support@bionicforms.com and we will load them for you.

Each .dbf file is one table. If your old system had several (customers, orders, parts), import them one at a time.
