How do I move my Access database to Bionic Forms?
Before you start: only your DATA comes across - not your forms, reports, macros, VBA or queries. The records move. The screens and automations you built get rebuilt in Bionic Forms. If you have spent years on Access forms, that is the part to plan for.
Bionic Forms takes a CSV export from Access.
Three steps in Access:
- External Data, then Export, then Text File. Give the file a name ending in .csv.
- Choose Delimited, then Comma, and tick Include Field Names on First Row. Then Finish.
- Drop the .csv onto the Bionic Forms page. One table at a time is fine, and you can load them in any order.
Links between tables: when a column names another table's records, it becomes a link. That only happens where both the column name and every value agree - where it is not sure, it leaves the values alone rather than guessing.
One limitation worth knowing before you start: calculation fields can be created but do not yet compute. They show as empty with a note explaining why.
Access only. This CSV step is needed because Bionic Forms cannot open an Access file directly. An Excel file is different - drop the .xlsx straight in, do not save it as a CSV first. See "Can I import from Excel?".
